[ He shakes like a leaf. Trembling and incoherent, hands bloodied, when he comes to Nick's room. He brushes off Nick's questions, shows that he's not injured, and goes into the shower. He leans his hands on the wall and stays there, stays there too long. ]

Oh, bloody -

[ Stephen ducks, and a blurry green shape swoops past the camera. Something clinks, wobbles, and then crashes. ]

Whose idea was this?

[ Plain exasperation, and surprise, too. If nothing else, it's knocked him out of the funk he's been in since Christmas Day.

He twists the camera to show a winged lizard on a high-up shelf, which croaks in distress and launches, gliding down to knock over a vase. ]

[Nick really seems lost and frustrated. Having very little idea how to deal with it but he's trying.

Part of that trying comes in the form of making sure Stephen's Warden knows something happened. He shoots off a quick text to Morgana, telling her he showed up bloody.]

[Which is a rather terrifying message to receive, especially with no warning from her Item. She tries to tell herself that it's likely a sign that Stephen isn't injured which, she realizes, is the only thing she cares about at the moment - but it's hard not to wonder if her Item is just somehow faulty.

She's quick about getting there, at least, especially after Arkin's message: she can't say she's upset about Jerry's death, even if he's human now. She knows she probably should be, but it's Stephen she's worried about now. She knocks at Nick's door, waiting impatiently.]

[ He only leaves the shower eventually, and reluctantly, and then he lingers in the heated bathroom for a while. He can't stop seeing the look on Jerry's face. It wasn't what he'd expected to happen. He's never hurt anyone before, not like that. Animals. It's different.

He starts shaking again as he's toweling himself off. He listens for voices outside. ]

[Nick lets her in shortly after she arrives.]

He's in the shower. [He sighs, glancing over toward the bathroom door.]

He only told me he wasn't hurt. He didn't answer any other questions.

[She nods, stepping over the threshold and eyeing the bathroom door.]

[For letting her know, but also for just being someone Stephen can turn to. They're far from close, but she still feels the weight of responsibility.

At the bathroom door, she knocks, listening for signs that he's out of the shower.]

[ Stephen opens it. His eyes are downcast, and he's toweling off his hair. He hangs the towel on a hook. ]

[ He seems diminished. Smaller. Held in. He's still in a kind of shock. ]

[ Rex croak-wails in disorientation and distress and scrambles up a wall, hiding on top of a bookshelf. ]
