[ enclosure ]

[ Nearly every morning (very, very early) Stephen tries to get someone to let him into the Enclosure. Waits outside, tense, restlessly rubbing his hands. And then when he's let in, he lets the environment go random: snowy mountains, rolling hills, cold desert. He runs along pathways of his own making, quick and agile, miles at a time. He only slows and stops once he's exhausted, and that takes a long time. He'll slow to a walk, maybe crouch, watch the animals and the plants interact.

Once, Stephen brings a lightweight canoe to the Enclosure, and programs it to guarantee a river. ]

[ dining hall ]

[ For breakfast, his hair's wet from taking a shower post-run. Sticking up, in odd places. He eats a lot, meats and eggs, anything that's close to a classic fry-up. He eats alone, generally, at a deliberate speed. ]

[ common areas, pool ]

[ Stephen works during the day on maintenance. He replaces light bulbs, and changes towels in the pool, and fixes tables and chairs.

He's a little distracted. There's a danger that he'll drop a light bulb, and it'll shatter. Watch out for glass.

He might come to your cabin, if there's something you need fixed. ]

[ note: prose responses are fine. ]

Enclosure

[Unsurprisingly, Nick often stops by unprompted to let him into the Enclosure. Not every day, mind you, he does like to sleep in sometimes but he appears often enough.

As with other times, he just lets him and hangs around non-intrusively.

[He gives him a look like he said a bad word. He doesn't actually hate running that much but he'll play it up like it's torture.]

Fine. So long as this isn't a race.

[Yep, you're getting him to run.]

If you do, I'll trip you. [Also sort of joking. Then he starts running, to get a small head start. Because they're not racing.]

Dining Hall

Six months in, Mickey is starting to realize just how much of a roller coaster the Barge can be. On the one hand, with the incredible weirdness of the Shakespeare flood (which he's privately thinking of as the Talking-In-Fucking-Tongues flood) behind them and the giant book left behind currently being used as a doorstop, he's inclined to be in a pretty great mood. On the other hand, his warden is in a coma and Chris and Cassel are... something, whatever the hell is going on with them, and that eats at him whenever he thinks about it.

On the third hand, Stephen is up and about again, and wherever they are in their orbit right now, it seems to be good, so when Mickey sits down across from him at the dining hall, he's all smiles. "Hey." He raises a brow at Stephen's plate and grins. "What, you ran out of Healthy Choice?" His own plate, of course, is a typical horror. He tucks in with a smug look.

"Yeah? Have fun with that." The invitation itself pleases him, but not enough for him to actually go crazy and take Stephen up on it. He stuffs another forkful of junk in his mouth, talking around it. "Take Ian with you. Dude is wearing me out lately."

Which is also a little smug, because really, how can he not brag about that?

"Not if I can help it," Mickey shoots back with an amused snort. "If I ever cross the wrong people and end up getting my ass dumped in Lake Michigan, maybe."

And suddenly, he can see where this is going, so he adds before Stephen can ask: "The pool in my 'hood is how mutant babies are born. That place is so toxic it's amazing anyone even survives going there. So no, I don't swim."

He leans back as Stephen leans in, a little freaked out by the sudden pointed interest. "I can swim." Sort of. Not really. He could probably doggy paddle to safety if he ever had to. But he can't answer that way, not with Stephen asking that way. "I said I don't swim."

"Not really, no." He squints at him, returning dubiously to his lunch. "I'm telling you -- if you wanna go all Crocodile Hunter on the place, Ian's your guy, not me. Not that I didn't like camping out with those little ETs and everything, but that's not exactly my usual scene."

"Besides," he adds as an afterthought, "I know you. Swimming with you doesn't just mean some laps in the pool or whatever. You mean doing some fucking polar bear shit in a river somewhere."

"Start." He gives him a skeptical look, reaching for a French fry.
